  • Pop culture
    The decade saw the rise of cable networks like MTV and CNN, which introduced the music video and launched the careers of many artists. It also saw the release of many blockbuster movies and the debut of the "yuppie". Other pop culture trends included big, bold designs, new wave, and punk, as well as the emergence of food courts in malls.
